Downstream of Glen Canyon Dam near Page, about 2 miles of the eastern rim of Glen Canyon is reachable by short cross country walks from US 89, and by the popular Horseshoe Bend Trail. The west rim is much more remote, but a network of dirt tracks criss-cross the sandy flats bordering the river canyon, and an interesting hike, starting along one such track, is down the small tributary of Ferry Swale Canyon, which meets the Colorado after a walk of 4.6 miles. About 2 miles of the river canyon are in view from the lower end.
