For some distance southwest of Canyonlands National Park, the Colorado River is reachable only by multi-day hikes along lengthy canyons like Gypsum, Bodie and Dark; easier access is not possible until the vicinity of the UT 95 crossing, near Hite
, Lake Powell. One much shorter tributary drainage, not often visited, is Rock Canyon
, which contains several narrow sections, and is bordered by benches, which towards the lower end have views of the river. The canyon is reached by a short drive along Hite Road, a lengthy unpaved route which eventually leads to the Maze district of Canyonlands.
