Arizona Hot Springs, Lake Mead NRA
PreviousLake Mohave, near Arizona Hot SpringsNext

Lake Mohave, the smaller of the two reservoirs in Lake Mead NRA is mostly very narrow, since this section of the Colorado River is contained within a deep, steep-walled gorge (Black Canyon), so much of the river corridor is little changed in appearance despite being partially flooded. One of the few trails to the lake is along Arizona Springs Canyon, ending in a small tributary drainage that contains a short but colorful slot section, and some hot pools. The path runs right beside the lake for a little way, deep within Black Canyon, where the clear, green-blue waters contrast greatly with the dark, jagged, somber rock walls.
