Week 3 - Corpus Christi to El Paso; North Padre Island
Thursday 7 July 1994: A similar day to Wednesday; apart from a walk
to the visitors centre, we didn't move from our parking spot. The sand dunes
were supposed to be infested with rattlesnakes, and although we did not
actually see any, there were many strange reptilian tracks in the sand, usually
centred around holes in the ground. In the evening our late meal was
interrupted by a hysterical couple who had got their 4x4 stuck in the sand
by the approaching sea, and needed a lift to the ranger station. After dropping them
off and returning to the beach, we were ourselves stuck for several minutes,
but managed to regain firm ground, from which we could watch the main rescue
from a distance.
