The imposing 21 storey Crowne Plaza Riverwalk has an AAA 4-diamond rating, making it one of the top hotels in San Antonio. Located right on the famous Riverwalk at the heart of downtown, the hotel offers every conceivable facility including a full service restaurant, cocktail lounge, large outdoor pool & sundeck, gift shop & newsstand, sauna & whirlpool, plus a range of business and meetings services. The location is 111 E Pecan St, towards the north end of the Riverwalk but still within walking distance of other well known central San Antonio attractions such as the Alamo and Rivercenter Mall.

Hotel Indigo San Antonio Riverwalk is the larger of two new hotels of this brand that opened in summer 2009, and it has a peaceful location along St Marys St on the north side of downtown San Antonio. At the rear of the property is an outdoor pool and patio, right next to the Riverwalk, while the front of the building overlooks a secluded courtyard with fountain and tropical plants. The hotel has a relaxed, sophisticated ambience, catering for guests in 149 elegant rooms featuring modern amenities and extra comfortable bedding. Other facilities include a restaurant/bar, fitness center, newsstand, business center, meetings space and free internet access.

One of two new Hotel Indigo properties that opened in San Antonio in 2009, this stylish, boutique hotel occupies the historic, eight storey Gibbs Building (built 1909), situated just 300 feet from the entrance to The Alamo and two blocks from the Riverwalk. The building retains many of its original features, but the hotel's decor and facilities are very modern. The 91 rooms & suites feature luxury bedding, free internet access, microwave & refrigerator, sofa bed and work desk. Breakfast, dinner, room service and cocktails are available from the on-site Phi bar/restaurant, while for relaxation the Hotel Indigo offers a well equipped fitness center, open 24 hours a day. Opening is scheduled for November 2009.

There are two Holiday Inn hotels along San Antonio's Riverwalk; this one is the larger (23 floors; 313 rooms) located at 217 N St Marys St, on the east side of the river and right at the middle of the most popular section of the Riverwalk, with many bars, nightclubs, shops and restaurants nearby. Also within half a mile is the Rivercenter Mall and the Alamo. For dining, the Holiday Inn has the Windows on the River restaurant, a split level establishment with fine views over the riverwalk, as does the adjacent cocktail lounge.

Holiday Inn Downtown (Market Sq) is another big central San Antonio hotel, with 313 rooms, occupying a sizeable area at the southwest corner of the intersection of S Santa Rosa St with W Durango Blvd, one block east of exit 155B of I-10, and half a mile from the Riverwalk. Also nearby is University of Texas San Antonio Downtown, Market Square and several city parks. At the center of the hotel complex is a large outdoor pool & gardens; other facilities include a restaurant, fitness center, gift shop and 7 meeting rooms.

One of the largest, best and most visually impressive hotels in downtown San Antonio is the Marriott Rivercenter, a huge building of 38 floors, 915 rooms & suites, and 60,000 sq ft of meeting space, situated on the corner of Bowie St and E Commerce St - between the east end of the Riverwalk and the Rivercenter Mall. There are two dining outlets on site - a Latin restaurant open for breakfast, lunch & dinner, and a lounge/bar - though countless more are a short walk away along the river. The hotel has a spacious 3 storey atrium lobby, indoor/outdoor connecting pool, fitness center, concierge level, room service, gift shop and a car rental desk.

Half the 507 rooms of the 30 storey Marriott San Antonio Riverwalk overlook the eastern spur of the river, which runs right past the hotel and terminates next to the Rivercenter Mall, just the other side of Commerce St. The Marriott is one of the closest hotels to The Alamo (0.3 miles), and within one mile of most of the attractions of central San Antonio. Room rates are quite reasonable for a full service, 4 star property, and although relatively old, the building is well maintained, and has a long list of amenities including an all-day restaurant, indoor/outdoor pool, fitness center, concierge service, business center, and 13 meeting rooms (12,000 sq ft of event space)

Although right in the city center (at 555 S Alamo St), and 0.3 miles from the Riverwalk, the 7 floor Marriott Plaza San Antonio has a countryside ambience owing to its large tree-lined, floral gardens, containing fountains, courtyards, a gazebo, pool, hot tub, and even a family of peacocks & pheasants. Half the 246 rooms look out over the garden; the others have views over the greenery of Hemisfair Park just to the east. There are many restaurants nearby and two in the hotel, plus a lounge and poolside bar; other facilities at the well-regarded hotel include a fitness center, concierge desk, gift shop, and 14 meeting rooms, some occupying specially converted historic cottages.

One of the newest San Antonio hotels, the Staybridge Suites Sunset Station is just east of exit 141 of I-37 (E Commerce St); one block west here then one block south on Hoefgen Ave. This is a large, 11 storey building containing 138 suites, catering for the longer stay traveler. The Alamodome is just to the south, and on the far side of the interstate are the Rivercenter Mall and Hemisfair Park. The modern suites are well furnished with amenities including a full kitchen, plasma TV & DVD player. The hotel also has an outdoor pool and convenience store.

Newly built (summer 2009), the elegant, high rise Courtyard hotel in downtown San Antonio caters for guests in 200 beautiful and well equipped rooms, most featuring a private balcony for wide ranging views over the city center. The hotel is built just 150 feet from the Riverwalk along N St Marys St, a short walk from many attractions such as the Alamo, River Center Mall, San Fernando Cathedral and Hemisfair Park. Leisure facilities are an outdoor pool, whirlpool and fitness center, while for business guests the Courtyard has five meeting rooms and a business center. The on site Bistro restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner.

One of three Marriott hotels along S Santa Rosa St in downtown San Antonio, the Courtyard occupies a spacious site surrounded by a large parking area dotted with palm trees and other tropical plants, while at the center of the complex is a pretty garden containing an outdoor pool and hot tub. Market Square is an easy walk northwards (0.3 miles), while the San Antonio Riverwalk begins 0.5 miles to the northeast. The well regarded hotel has 137 rooms & 12 suites, two meeting rooms, and two dining outlets - the Courtyard Cafe for breakfast and the Market Deli open 24 hours a day.

The most central of several Residence Inn properties in San Antonio is a tall, 13 floor building just one block from The Alamo, two blocks from the Rivercenter Mall, and half a mile from the Riverwalk. Above average amenities include free full breakfast, free evening light dinner (Mon-Thu), and a fully equipped kitchen in all 220 of the spacious suites, which also feature luxurious bedding, a large work desk, and an extra pull-out sofa bed. The hotel has a good reputation for cleanliness and high quality customer service.

Residence Inn San Antonio Market Square shares a site with two other Marriott hotels (Courtyard and Fairfield Inn) on S Santa Rosa St, one block east of I-35 along Durango Blvd. There are 95 suites in the 3 floor building, each with a full kitchen; the other main hotel amenities are free full breakfast, free evening reception where beer, wine & snacks are served, free grocery shopping service, a fitness center, outdoor pool, whirlpool, and 2 meeting rooms.

The O'Brien Hotel is a historic, 3 storey building that occupies a small site along Navarro St, one block east of the Riverwalk in the center of San Antonio, and within walking distance of many attractions in the downtown area. Numerous restaurants, bars and clubs are found along the river and nearby streets, as well as shopping in the Rivercenter Mall and other large stores. The elegant, boutique-style hotel (previously known as the Clarion) has an exercise room and serves free continental breakfast, but there is no swimming pool.

The second Candlewood Suites hotel to open in San Antonio is a six floor, 96 room property along Laredo Street on the south edge of downtown, next to the Alamo Street exit of I-10/I-35 and 1.5 miles from the Riverwalk. Accommodation features studio or one-bedroom suites with full kitchen, a large work desk and free internet access; the hotel also has a convenience store, fitness center, outdoor pool, bbq area and free guest laundry. The hotel opened November 2009.

Renovated and upgraded late 2008 following its conversion from another brand, the Holiday Inn Express San Antonio Riverwalk Area is a medium sized, 5 floor property within walking distance of all major attractions of downtown San Antonio, including the Alamo. The inn is situated half a mile east of I-10 exit 156, on the corner of Cameron & Commerce streets - a site near to at least six restaurants and several shops. Complimentary items provided by the hotel are local calls, a daily newspaper, deluxe continental buffet breakfast, and internet access. The 82 rooms have an above average standard of decor and furnishings; all are equipped with a refrigerator and microwave.

Formerly a Best Western, this new Holiday Inn Express hotel in San Antonio is situated a mile southwest of the famous Riverwalk area and The Alamo - close to I-35 (exit 155 - Durango St), at the corner of El Paso St and Laredo St. The compact, 4 story building has 79 newly renovated suites containing a microwave, refrigerator, 2 TVs, a coffee maker and ironing facilities. Complimentary buffet continental breakfast is provided, and the hotel also offers an outdoor pool, business center & fitness center.

In east central San Antonio, the Holiday Inn Express Rivercenter has 81 rooms on 4 floors, situated a mile west of the downtown/riverwalk district at 1309 E Commerce St - on the edge of a residential area but within 2 blocks of a selection of shops and restaurants. The nearest interstate is I-37, exit 141 (Commerce St), 1/4 mile to the west. The hotel offers a complimentary local area shuttle, to the Riverwalk, Rivercenter Mall, the Alamo and other central attractions.

SpringHill Suites San Antonio Downtown is the third component of a trio of newly built Marriott hotels near the Alamo, located just one block northeast, at the junction of Bonham and Bowie streets. The hotel's 118 oversized rooms feature a kitchenette area with microwave, refrigerator & sink, plus a large work desk and free wi-fi. Free hot breakfast is provided each morning, and there is also a daily housekeeping service. A pool and exercise room are available for recreation.

The SpringHill Suites by Marriott is a fall 2012 addition to the group of hotels a few blocks southwest of downtown San Antonio - built at the corner of Flores St and Durango Blvd, half a mile from historic Market Square. The hotel has 118 spacious studio suites, all with a large work desk and kitchen area containing microwave, sink & refrigerator. Free buffet breakfast is prepared each morning, and free coffee is available all day from the lobby. A business center, guest laundry and free internet access are some of the other facilities.

Affordable all suite lodging is provided by Best Western Alamo Suites, a new hotel next to I-10/I-35 in central San Antonio, less than a mile from the Riverwalk. All 72 oversized rooms have a microwave, full size refrigerator (plus ice-maker), free internet access and a sofabed; most offer fine views of the downtown area, and some feature a hot tub bath and accommodation on two levels. All the other standard amenities are available - free continental breakfast, a pool (indoor), spa, laundry, fitness center and basic business services.

The Best Western Sunset Suites hotel is close to San Antonio's Riverwalk area though not actually in it, being 1 mile east, at 1103 E Commerce St, just east of exit 141B of I-37. Closer sites of interest include the Alamodome and Hemisfair Park, both a short walk southwards. This is an all suite hotel (64 rooms; 4 floors), that occupies a historic building built in 1905; for 40 years this was one of the main grocery stores in the city and also hosted an illegal nightclub during the prohibition era. The surrounding Sunset Station district has many more fine old buildings from the early 20th century, as a well as a good selection of restaurants. The hotel has an exercise facility, gift shop and business center but no pool.

Fairfield Inn San Antonio Downtown opened early 2011 opposite a Marriott sister property (Residence Inn), just off 3rd Street near I-37 exit 141A - a quarter of a mile from the Alamo. The six floor hotel provides comfortable, affordable accommodation with the standard amenities of free continental breakfast, free wi-fi, guest laundry, a pool, whirlpool and fitness center. Many restaurants can be found within a few blocks, together with such attractions as the San Antonio IMAX Theater, Henry Gonzales Convention Center and the Riverwalk.

Right next to the Courtyard hotel at 620 S Santa Rosa St stands the Fairfield Inn & Suites San Antonio Downtown, a handsome, 4 floor, 110 room building that also receives many favorable guest comments, on account of the free hot continental breakfast, the large clean & well equipped rooms, the friendly staff and the good location - within 1.5 miles of most of the major attractions of central San Antonio, and right next to a trolley stop for those who prefer not to walk. Leisure amenities comprise an indoor heated pool and a fitness center.

Newly constructed (2008), the Comfort Suites in downtown San Antonio is within half a mile of the Rivercenter Mall, The Alamo and the Riverwalk, although separated from the central district by I-37 which runs past just to the west. The inn has a particularly elegant, Spanish-style exterior, and inside all the fixtures and fittings are similarly stylish and well presented. Above average amenities include free hot breakfast, free evening reception, a pool/hot tub/fitness center, a miniature golf course, a convenience store, and a microwave/refrigerator in all 89 rooms, which are on 4 floors, and many have fine views over the central San Antonio skyline.

For low priced lodging close to central San Antonio, the Rodeway Inn Downtown is one of the better choices; a 2 floor, exterior corridor motel with the standard facilities of free continental breakfast, free parking and an outdoor pool. The 125 rooms are generally clean, and the staff helpful. The hotel sits just north of I-35 along Main Ave, which leads to downtown San Antonio 0.8 miles south, so within walking distance though the local trolley service stops right outside the inn, taking guests directly to the Riverwalk and other local attractions.
