is one of the smallest cities in the greater Phoenix region, occupying about 5 square miles mostly south of Interstate 10 near the Loop 101 junction. The central section is residential, and some land around the edges is used for agriculture, but most of the area is industrial, locations including Tolleson Commerce Center, Canal Industrial Park and several huge distribution centers, one for Fry's Supermarkets. The main commercial district is around the I-10/101 intersection, at the boundary between Phoenix and Avondale. Downtown Phoenix is an easy ten mile drive to the east. To the south, the land is partly developed for just a short distance, as far as the wide valley of the Salt River
; beyond are two desert preserves, South Mountain Park
and Estrella Mountain Regional Park
