The third largest city in Arizona (behind Phoenix and Tucson), Mesa extends 18 miles east-west and 7 miles north-south, bordered by Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, Apache Junction and the Salt River Indian Reservation. Loop 202 runs around the edge and US 60, the Superstition Freeway across the south, the other main thoroughfare being Hwy 87 from Payson (Country Club Drive/Arizona Avenue). The city center, around the junction of Main and Center streets, includes a selection of museums, art galleries and official buildings, while hotels and large stores are located mostly along US 60 and Main Street. The two main shopping centers are Fiesta Mall towards the west and Superstition Springs in the east. The southernmost section of Mesa (south of Baseline Road) of the city is more agricultural, and includes Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
