North Central Austin Hotels

The DoubleTree is one of the more luxurious hotels in Austin, and it has a prominent location facing I-35 at the Koenig Lane (Hwy 290) intersection, 5 miles north of the city center and right opposite the main shops and restaurants of Highland Mall. The six story building presents an elegant, Spanish-style facade; inside are 350 spacious rooms & suites, a welcoming fireplace lobby, 22,000 sq ft of meeting/event space and the Courtyard cafe/lounge, open for breakfast, lunch, dinner & room service. Leisure facilities are the usual fitness center and outdoor pool.

The Holiday Inn offers full service accommodations in north Austin; one of many hotels near Highland Mall and the I-35/Hwy 290 intersection, the nine floor building has 189 large & modern rooms, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, an all-day restaurant & lounge/bar, and 13,000 sq ft of meeting space catering for events of up to 700 guests. The pool is surrounded by extensive landscaped gardens, creating a calm retreat from the otherwise busy neighborhood.

The nine story Courtyard Austin Central rises high above several adjacent hotels at the southwest side of the US 290 - I-35 junction, 4 miles north of downtown Austin, and it offers a superior standard of accommodation, with 198 recently renovated rooms and suites, all clean and well maintained, plus leisure amenities of an outdoor pool, whirlpool and fitness room. There are two major shopping centers within walking distance (Highland Mall & Capital Plaza) plus many restaurants; also nearby (2.5 miles) is the University of Texas-Austin. Freshly cooked breakfast is available at the hotel's Bistro restaurant.

Although situated just off busy I-35 (at the 51st Street exit), Residence Inn Austin-University Area enjoys peaceful surroundings, in between a business district and a residential estate, close to Bartholomew Park and the new Mueller development, which includes a HEB supermarket. The all-suite/extended stay Marriott hotel offers spacious, modern accommodations in studio, one bedroom and two bedroom layouts, all featuring a full kitchen; food for cooking can be ordered by the free grocery delivery service. Also complimentary are wi-fi, daily hot breakfast and weekday evening receptions. An outdoor pool, fitness center and sports court are available for leisure. The property opened fall 2013.

The full service Embassy Suites Austin caters for guests in 260 well appointed suites, each with a separate living area and a kitchenette (wet bar, coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator). Other meals are available from the Lynx Steakhouse Restaurant, which also offers room service until 11 pm. The hotel is one of many close to the I-35/US 290 intersection, 5 miles north of downtown Austin. Early 2025 sees the opening of the Hilton Garden Inn, a full service property beside the major intersection of I-35 and US 183 (east side), in a mixed business/commercial neighborhood - there are several restaurants within walking distance, and a Walmart supermarket. The pet friendly property has a 24 hour fitness center, an outdoor pool, a business center and onsite restaurant, open for breakfast and dinner. The hotel is 7 miles northeast of downtown Austin.

Hampton Inn Austin North adjoins a shopping district (including a post office), but the immediate surroundings are secluded and peaceful, as the property backs on to a wooded creek, and is shielded by trees in other directions. I-35 runs past on the west side; access is from exit 240 (US 183). There are several restaurants within half a mile. Accommodations at the Hampton Inn comprise regular rooms with a king bed or two double beds, and study suites which have a spacious living area and pull-out sofa. Complimentary amenities are wi-fi and daily hot breakfast; also available are the usual facilities for leisure, business and meetings.

In a quiet, residential district 7 miles north of downtown Austin, the Holiday Inn Express Austin North Central offers 101 clean, oversized rooms (equipped with refrigerator/microwave) on 4 floors, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, free internet access and good quality free continental breakfast. The hotel sits on the frontage road on the west side of I-35, just north of exit 241 (US 183), and adjacent to a wooded stream. Sites within 3 miles include the Highland Mall, University of Texas (JJ Pickle Center) and St Johns Park. Austin Bergstrom International Airport is 15 miles south.

Open early 2019, Candlewood Suites Austin North accommodates guests in 87 studio or one bedroom suites that feature a work desk, sofa bed, DVD player and a full kitchen. Breakfast is complimentary, and the hotel also offers a convenience store, gazebo bbq, fitness center and business center. The four floor property is positioned near the intersection of US 183 and US 290, 2 miles east of I-35 and 7 miles northeast of the city center.

The Best Western hotel has an easily-reached location beside the I-35/Hwy 69 intersection, albeit a little overshadowed by some of the freeway ramps. The interior corridor, four story building contains 137 guest rooms, a fitness center, business center, meeting space, and a dining area for the daily free hot breakfast. Also complimentary are wi-fi and the manager's receptions (Mon-Thu), where drinks & snacks are provided. The hotel is surrounded by an extensive parking lot and has an outdoor pool/sundeck on the west side. There are two restaurants in the vicinity.

The Fairfield Inn & Suites in central Austin provides 63 rooms & suites, free continental breakfast, free internet access, an indoor pool/hot tub, business center and guest laundry. Some rooms contain a microwave and refrigerator. Rates are low, but not at the expense of good customer service, and the hotel is well connected to other locations in Austin by I-35 which passes by just to the east, meeting US 183 and US 190 a short distance north. Highland Mall and Lincoln Village are both within walking distance, on the far side of the 290 Freeway.

Comfort Inn Austin (700 Delamar Avenue) has a north-central location at the edge of a residential district beside I-35, one of several hotels just southwest of the intersection with US 183 (exit 240A). Four blocks to the south is the large Highland Mall, and there are many restaurants nearby. The hotel contains 73 clean, well maintained rooms (some with microwave/refrigerator), an indoor swimming pool/hot tub and guest use copy/fax machines; continental breakfast and internet access are both provided free of charge.

The 82 room, pet friendly Sleep Inn and Suites Austin is built along the Manor Expressway (US 290), set back slightly from the main road and partly enclosed by woodland. There are four nearby restaurants, but otherwise the neighborhood is lightly developed, and includes Walnut Creek Nature Preserve to the south; the nearest major shopping center is Highland Mall, 3 miles west. Exterior facilities are a pool, picnic area and sundeck, while inside, the hotel offers a fitness center, business center, meeting space and a dining room, where free hot breakfast is served each morning.

13 miles north of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), the Baymont Inn is a typical old-style, exterior corridor property, the guest rooms in two linked blocks surrounded by the parking lot; some have views of the outdoor pool, on the north side. Wi-fi and continental breakfast are complimentary. The motel is part of a group of businesses on the southwest side of the I-35/US 290 intersection in north central Austin.

I-35 runs past the front of Super 8 Austin, while to the rear is a wooded residential area, and there is one restaurant adjacent. The motel sits on the west side of the interstate, 4 miles north of the city center and 2.5 miles from University of Texas. Retail districts in the vicinity include Highland Mall and Capital Plaza. The three floor, exterior corridor motel has an outdoor pool, well shielded by trees from the freeway, plus a business center, bbq/picnic area, ATM and guest laundry facility. Complimentary, eight item continental breakfast is served. Pets are welcome.

Super 8 Austin North is a larger-than-average property of four floors and 123 rooms, positioned along the western I-35 frontage road just north of the US 183 intersection. Rooms at the rear enjoy pleasant views across the secluded outdoor pool/hot tub towards a patch of woodland. Free continental breakfast is provided, and there are two restaurants adjacent. All accommodations contain a microwave and refrigerator. A meeting room caters for events of up to 50 people. The hotel also offers a business center and a fitness room.
