Downtown Las Vegas is centered on Fremont Street, four blocks of which are enclosed under an arched roof, lined by neon lighting and forming one component of the Fremont Street Experience that also includes the surrounding casinos, bars, shops and restaurants. Elsewhere in the city center are a good selection of other entertainment outlets, mixed with official buildings like Las Vegas City Hall and Las Vegas Academy of the Arts. Downtown is bordered approximately by I-11 to the north, the railway to the west and Charleston Blvd to the south, and crossed by Las Vegas Blvd, the Strip; the northernmost of the large casinos (Stratosphere) is 1.8 miles from Fremont Street. Most lodging in the area is provided either by the downtown casinos or by numerous small, basic motels, concentrated along Las Vegas Blvd.
