Central Salt Lake City Hotels

The Marriott in central Salt Lake City is a typically large, well managed, business-oriented hotel with a good location along State Street, two blocks south of Temple Square. Open in 2001, the hotel has 12 floors and 249 rooms & suites, all comfortable, nicely decorated, equipped with luxurious accessories like marble bathrooms and HDTVs, and enjoying great views of the mountains or the city. The on site restaurant is La Bella Piastra, serving Italian-influenced dishes, and open for breakfast, lunch & dinner. There is also a Starbucks, open all day for drinks and snacks, and a lobby lounge/bar. Meeting facilities comprise 17 rooms totaling 15,000 sq ft of space.

Marriott have two hotels in downtown Salt Lake City within half a mile of each other; the larger sits along West Temple, directly opposite Salt Palace Convention Center, next to Arrow Press Square shopping center and one block from Temple Square. It offers excellent customer service, comfortable rooms with luxury bedding, two restaurants (the continental-influenced Elevations, and a Starbucks coffee house), a lounge/bar, indoor/outdoor pool, sauna, hot tub, fitness center and 22,000 sq ft of event space. The hotel is a 6 mile drive from the international airport (no free shuttle, however).

Many of the 218 rooms & suites at Marriott Salt Lake City University Park have excellent views over the Wasatch Mountains, which rise up just one mile away - the hotel is one of the few in the northeast part of Salt Lake City, on the campus of University of Utah. The nearest interstate is I-80, 3.5 miles south. Rates are relatively low, owing to the somewhat remote location, but the Marriott still has the expected high standards of customer service, facilities and comfort. Amenities include one concierge level, a restaurant, Starbucks cafe, lobby lounge, fitness center, indoor pool and 10,335 sq ft of meeting/event space.

Although occupying an older building, guest rooms and other facilities at Hilton Salt Lake City Center are well maintained and have been regularly updated, making the hotel a good choice for either the business or leisure traveler. Rated AAA Four Diamond, the Hilton is known for its efficient staff, the comfortable rooms, the good quality food at the on-site restaurants, and the fine central location - along West Temple just across the street from the convention center and two blocks from Temple Square. Other facilities include an indoor pool, staffed business center, full service spa (The Retreat), and 24,000 sq ft of meeting space.

Locations within four blocks of the Residence Inn by Marriott Salt Lake City include Temple Square, the Salt Palace Convention Center, ZCMI Center and The Gateway shopping mall - the hotel has a spacious site right in the middle of downtown, taking up most of one block on the corner of W 3rd S (Broadway) and S 2nd W, next to Pioneer Park. Accommodation comprises 178 spacious suites (each with a fully equipped kitchen; most with a private balcony) in two 4 floor blocks facing a large area of gardens, which contain an outdoor pool, sports court and hot tub. Free hot breakfast and light dinner (weekdays) are provided, or for other dining there are many good restaurants within a few minutes walk.

The Courtyard hotel in downtown Salt Lake City is quite centrally located at 130 W 400 S - four blocks from Temple Square & the ZCMI Center, three blocks from the Gateway shopping/office center and two blocks east of Pioneer Park. Although in the middle of a built-up neighborhood, the hotel has a tree-lined site that creates a restful atmosphere, enhanced by the comfortable and well equipped rooms. The hotel has a restaurant on site (Courtyard Cafe), open for breakfast and dinner, plus an indoor pool, hot tub and fitness center.

Catering for long stay visitors to downtown Salt Lake City, the new SpringHill Suites is a modern, all-suite hotel on the corner of W 6th S & S 3rd W streets, so towards the south side of the city center. The 86 rooms all have separate areas for working, dining & sleeping, and are furnished with a microwave, refrigerator, ironing facilities and coffee maker. Free full breakfast is offered, plus a 24 hour convenience store for the purchase of snacks and other items. For relaxation the hotel has the three essentials of an exercise room, hot tub and pool (indoor).

The recently built (summer 2009) Comfort Inn Downtown at 171 W 500 S in south central Salt Lake City is a part of the Salt City Plaza development, which features restaurants, shops and office space, all within a few blocks of the downtown area. The hotel contains 85 rooms including several sizes of suite, all well equipped with such amenities as a refrigerator, microwave, pillow top mattresses, flat screen TV and free internet access. Guests have use of a fitness center, hot tub & convenience store, and the Comfort Inn also has the expected facilities for business and meetings. Free full breakfast is served each morning.

Rates at Econo Lodge Downtown are quite low, reflecting the rather old guest rooms and the sometimes noisy location right next to I-15, but the motel is a good choice for budget Salt Lake City accommodation, being just one mile from Temple Square - due east along N Temple St. Utah State Fairgrounds, EnergySolutions Arena and Crossroads Plaza are also within a few blocks. At the motel, continental breakfast, airport shuttle and internet access are all free; also available are an outdoor pool and guest laundry.
