The Marriott in central Salt Lake City is a typically large, well managed, business-oriented hotel with a good location along State Street, two blocks south of Temple Square. Open in 2001, the hotel has 12 floors and 249 rooms & suites, all comfortable, nicely decorated, equipped with luxurious accessories like marble bathrooms and HDTVs, and enjoying great views of the mountains or the city. The on site restaurant is La Bella Piastra, serving Italian-influenced dishes, and open for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Marriott have two hotels in downtown Salt Lake City within half a mile of each other; the larger sits along West Temple, directly opposite Salt Palace Convention Center, next to Arrow Press Square shopping center and one block from Temple Square. It offers excellent customer service, comfortable rooms with luxury bedding, two restaurants (the continental-influenced Elevations, and a Starbucks coffee house), a lounge/bar, indoor/outdoor pool, sauna, hot tub, fitness center and 22,000 sq ft of event space. Many of the 218 rooms & suites at Marriott Salt Lake City University Park have excellent views over the Wasatch Mountains, which rise up just one mile away - the hotel is one of the few in the northeast part of Salt Lake City, on the campus of University of Utah. The nearest interstate is I-80, 3.5 miles south. Rates are relatively low, owing to the somewhat remote location, but the Marriott still has the expected high standards of customer service, facilities and comfort. Rates at Econo Lodge Downtown are quite low, reflecting the rather old guest rooms and the sometimes noisy location right next to I-15, but the motel is a good choice for budget Salt Lake City accommodation, being just one mile from Temple Square - due east along N Temple St. Utah State Fairgrounds, EnergySolutions Arena and Crossroads Plaza are also within a few blocks.
