In the middle of the empty, rolling plains of east New Mexico, the small town of Fort Sumner has one chain hotel: the Super 8, located along main street (US 60/84), at the edge of the countryside. The adobe-style inn has 43 basic but clean rooms, some equipped with refrigerator and microwave. Free continental breakfast is the one main amenity. Pets are welcome, for a small charge. The grave of Billy the Kid is 6 miles south at Fort Sumner Park - although some think he resides 550 miles away in Hamilton, Texas.
