The high rise Holiday Inn Sacramento is one of the largest hotels in the central area, offering 359 rooms and suites in a 16 floor building that overlooks the Sacramento River, interstate 5 and the Downtown Plaza. The location is the corner of 3rd & J streets, immediately east of exit 519B of the interstate and 0.7 miles from the state capitol buildings. Courtyard Sacramento Cal Expo shares a parking lot with two other Marriott hotels (Fairfield Inn & TownePlace Suites), though offers the best facilities - the Courtyard Panini Bar and Grill (open for breakfast, lunch & dinner), an outdoor pool/hot tub, fitness center, business center, and 5 meeting rooms totaling 5,229 sq ft of event space. The 152 rooms and the public areas have modern, contemporary decor, and are well maintained and spotlessly clean. All sites in Sacramento are within easy reach via the Capital City Freeway (Business I-80) which runs by just to the east.

One of four Marriott hotels within 1.5 miles of each other in northwest Sacramento, the Courtyard Airport Natomas has a particularly quiet, relaxing location, surrounded by tall trees at the edge of the Sacramento River, within walking distance from hiking, fishing, boating and picnicking at Discovery Park. Sacramento International Airport is a 9 mile drive away, served by complimentary shuttle. Like most properties of this brand, the hotel has a nice courtyard garden, containing flowerbeds, lawns, an outdoor pool and gazebo; the other main facilities are a cafe serving breakfast, a 24 hour market, two meeting rooms and a fitness center.

The most southerly of the three Courtyard hotels in Sacramento is part of the University of California-Davis Medical Center, in a generally quiet location since apart from the hospital, the surroundings are all residential, and the nearest main road (US 50) is 0.7 miles north, along Stockton Blvd. Downtown Sacramento is just a 2.5 mile drive away, however, so the hotel is convenient for general travelers as well as those visiting or working at the UC Davis center. Although only recently opened, the 15 floor Residence Inn at Capitol Park is regarded by many as the best hotel in Sacramento. It has a great location, overlooking the greenery of Capitol Park at the corner of 15th & L streets, within a short walk of the Capitol buildings, the Downtown Plaza and Sacramento Convention Center. The easternmost of Marriott's three Residence Inn hotels in Sacramento has an unusual layout with the 176 suites divided into several separate 2-floor blocks, between which are pleasant, tree-lined walkways, and with an outdoor pool/hot tub at the front. The hotel is located at 1530 Howe Ave, a busy road with plenty of shops & restaurants, and is within a mile of the Arden Fair Mall, California Exposition Center, and the edge of the American River Parkway. Sacramento's new Staybridge Suites hotel is part of the Gateway shopping/business/entertainment complex near the edge of the fast-growing suburbs in the northwest corner of the city - it is located just north of I-80 exit 88 (Truxel Rd), a mile from the I-5 intersection. Nearby sites include Arco Arena, Discovery Park, and downtown Sacramento which is 4 miles south. The TownePlace Suites hotel in northeast Sacramento opened in 2007 alongside two other Marriott properties (Courtyard, Fairfield Inn), close to CalExpo and 3 miles from the city center. The property specializes in mid range extended stay lodging - there are 117 oversized rooms, ranging in size from studio suites to large two-bed suites; all contain a full kitchen, and all are very clean & well looked after. Complimentary buffet breakfast is served each day, though a better choice of dishes is available from the Courtyard opposite, or from several other nearby restaurants. The TownePlace Suites also has a pool, hot tub, fitness center and one meeting room.

The newly built SpringHill Suites Sacramento Airport has become one of the top rated hotels in town, because of the particularly clean & comfortable rooms, good customer service, relatively low rates, and the quiet, convenient location - at the edge of a small business park alongside I-5, 9 miles from the airport and 3.5 miles from downtown Sacramento. The all suite hotel (95 rooms on 4 floors) has an indoor heated pool, hot tub, free airport shuttle and free buffet breakfast.

With 174 rooms on 4 floors, the Clarion Hotel Mansion Inn is quite a substantial building, occupying half a block between 15th & 16th streets in downtown Sacramento - part of a group of hotels that includes the Econo Lodge opposite and the Holiday Inn Express next door. Also just across the road (H St) is the venerable Governor's Mansion, now protected as a state historical park. Most important sites in the center of Sacramento are within 2 miles. Holiday Inn Express is the hotel of choice in West Sacramento, 3 miles from the main city center. The hotel lies in the middle of a commercial/industrial neighborhood next to the Harbor Blvd exit of US 50, a mile east of the I-80 intersection, and is within walking distance of a few restaurants. Although small (with 55 rooms), the hotel is clean & new, well furnished and with friendly staff. Free deluxe continental breakfast is served.

Newly built in 2009, the Holiday Inn Express hotel in northeast Sacramento borders a quiet residential district alongside I-80, just across from Haggin Oaks Golf Course and 3 miles from California Expo. Other attractions in the area include Town and Country Village, Del Paso Country Club and Arden Fair Mall. The hotel has 81 modern, spacious guest rooms and offers a good combination of facilities at a reasonable price, such as a complimentary shuttle, complimentary hot breakfast, pool, fitness center and business center.

Best Western Sutter House is a 3 floor, 95 room hotel with old English decor, located towards the north side of downtown Sacramento at 1100 H St, in a neighborhood of numerous offices, shops and restaurants. The State Capitol, Downtown Plaza, Cesar Chavez Park, Sacramento Convention Center and the State Railroad Museum are all within a mile. Some of the rooms look inwards onto a solar-heated outdoor pool in the middle of a small enclosed courtyard; other amenities are free continental breakfast, a fitness center and a cocktail lounge with occasional live entertainment.

Half the 113 rooms of the Best Western Sandman Motel have views over the adjacent Sacramento River, while the others look out over the spacious parking area with outdoor pool at one side. The property has a relatively quiet location along a side road just west of I-5 (exit 520; Richards Blvd), yet just 1.5 miles from the State Capitol at the center of Sacramento. A mile to north are the extensive footpaths and woodland of Discovery Park, alongside the American River. The 2 storey motel offers free breakfast, a cocktail lounge, spa and guest laundry.

In the southeast suburbs of Sacramento close to highway 99 from Stockton, the Best Western John Jay Inn has 58 rooms on 3 floors, an outdoor pool, exercise room, spa, steam room and guest laundry. I-80 is 4 miles north - exits 91 or 94. The 126 rooms are on 2 floors, some looking out over the hotel's outdoor pool/hot tub. Free continental breakfast is served while for other dining there are several restaurants adjacent.

Right at the edge of open countryside yet only a 4 mile drive from downtown Sacramento, Marriott's Fairfield Inn offers quiet, comfortable and affordable lodging in the care of friendly, attentive staff and with good facilities - free airport shuttle, free hot breakfast, 24 hour convenience store, outdoor pool, hot tub and fitness room. There are 93 rooms, including 25 executive king suites that contain a microwave, refrigerator, sofa bed and enhanced working area. The inn sits next to exit 85 of I-80 (El Camino Ave), close to a couple of restaurants though a mile or more away from most facilities.

The Fairfield Inn Sacramento Cal Expo is the cheapest of three adjacent Marriott hotels just west of the California Exposition Center along Tribute Rd - next to the Exposition Blvd exit of the Capitol City Freeway, which leads directly into downtown Sacramento (3 miles south). Although close to a main road, the location is quiet, and the open spaces of the American River Parkway are just a couple of minute's walk away. The 74 room, 3 floor inn is new, clean and well managed, providing services of free hot breakfast, a fitness center, hot tub and outdoor heated pool

Comfort Inn & Suites is a southeast Sacramento hotel, just south of the Howe Ave exit of US 50 and within half a mile of Granite Park, California State University-Sacramento, and the American River Parkway. Downtown is 5 miles west. The surrounding neighborhood has several large stores and a selection of restaurants, closest being Applebee's and Chili's. The clean, new building contains 68 rooms on 3 floors, an indoor pool, exercise room, guest laundry and business center.

On the banks of the Sacramento River, Comfort Suites Downtown is a clean, new-looking, 3 storey building with easy access from I-5 and to the city center - the State Capitol is 1.5 miles south and the hotel is just west of exit 520 of the interstate. The hotel has a sheltered outdoor pool/hot tub, away from the main road, plus other amenities of free continental breakfast, guest laundry, and a microwave/refrigerator in each room.

One of a group of hotels around 15th & 16th streets towards the north edge of downtown Sacramento, the Quality Inn is a typical 2 storey building with exterior corridors and covered parking, and provides cheap, simple accommodation within walking distance of the main sites in the center, including the Convention Center (1 block), Central Park (4 blocks) and the Downtown Plaza (8 blocks). There are plenty of shops, restaurants & entertainment centers nearby, including the Music Circus theater just across the street. The inn has an outdoor pool and serves free continental breakfast.

On the north side of Sacramento, Quality Inn Natomas has a relatively quiet location in a mostly residential area, but there are a few restaurants adjacent and the hotel is well-connected to all nearby sites via I-80 which runs just to the north - access is from exit 89 (Northgate Blvd). Sacramento Airport is 10 miles away, close enough for the inn to operate a complimentary shuttle; other free items are continental breakfast, parking and internet access. The property has 132 rooms in two large blocks, many with views over the outdoor pool and hot tub. Some rooms are equipped with a microwave and refrigerator.

The Econo Lodge is a downtown Sacramento hotel, located in a wooded neighborhood at the corner of 16th & H Streets, within a mile of the Convention Center, Capitol Park and the State Capitol. Accommodation is basic but comfortable, and rather cheaper than most other hotels in central Sacramento. Free continental breakfast is served, while other meals are available in the restaurant of the adjacent Clarion Hotel Mansion Inn.

On Capitol Avenue in West Sacramento, Rodeway Inn Capitol is only one mile from both the Downtown Plaza and Sacramento's Old Town district, and even closer to Raley Field stadium (0.3 miles). Despite the proximity to the many of the major sites in Sacramento, room rates are low, and the hotel provides clean, comfortable, well managed accommodation, renovated late 2007 following its transfer to the Rodeway Inn chain. Amenities are limited to free continental breakfast, free internet access, guest laundry and a microwave in each room, but the main selling point is the good location. The inn is also within walking distance of several shops and restaurants.
