The 164 room Best Western Carmel Mission Inn is the last major hotel along Highway 1 for 90 miles south (to San Simeon), and has a convenient location along the main road at the corner of Rio Rd, just a short walk from a cluster of shops & restaurants along Carmel Ranch Blvd. Despite the proximity to the highway, this is a quiet, peaceful place with many of the rooms looking out over a well kept floral garden and the outdoor pool. Carmel-by-the-Sea town center and the nearby beach are both about 1.5 miles to the west, while Point Lobos (the start of Big Sur) is 2 miles south. The on-site Villa Carmel restaurant provides full breakfast (not complimentary).

Clarion Collection Carmel
In a leafy, semi-residential part of Carmel, the Clarion Collection hotel is a small building of just 17 rooms, on 2 floors with outside corridors, but offers comfortable & clean accommodation a short walk from the town center. The Comfort Inn of Carmel has a central location at the intersection of Torres St & Ocean Blvd - 7 blocks from Highway 1 and an easy walk from all the many attractions of Carmel Village. The beach is a still-manageable 12 blocks west (0.6 miles). Lawns, mature trees, & decorative flowers create a relaxing atmosphere, and though small, the inn has a range of facilities including free breakfast, free newspaper and a refrigerator in each room.
