Taken from the top of West Butte at the west end of Borrego Mountain, close to CA 78 and a few miles south of the Borrego Badlands. The flat desert basin stretches beyond the immediate foreground, enclosed for 270° by distant mountain ranges - only the east is more open, where the land slopes down towards the Salton Sea.
