Central San Antonio Hotels

The imposing 21 stoery InterContinentalRiverwalk looks set to become one of the top hotels in San Antonio, following its opening late 2024. Located right on the famous Riverwalk at the heart of downtown, the hotel offers every conceivable facility including a full service restaurant, cocktail lounge, large outdoor pool & sundeck, gift shop & newsstand, sauna & whirlpool, plus a range of business and meetings services. The location, along Pecan Street, is towards the north end of the Riverwalk but still within walking distance of other well known central San Antonio attractions such as the Alamo and Rivercenter Mall.

The ten storey St Anthony Hotel overlooks Travis Park in the center of San Antonio, two blocks from The Alamo and the Riverwalk, and has been one of the most luxurious places to stay in the city ever since its opening, in 1909. The interior makes use of upscale architectural features such as mahogany panels, Italian marble and Corinthain columns, reminiscent of the grand old hotels of Europe. Accommodations include regular rooms and various sizes of suite, up to three bedroom; most have spectacular city views. Five food & beverage outlets cater for every occasion, accompanied by 24 hour room service. Also available are a 24 hour fitness center, a rooftop infinity pool (with cabanas), and extensive meeting space, enough for events of up to 675 guests.

Although right in the city center, and 0.3 miles from the Riverwalk, the seven floor Otis Hotel, a member of Marriott's Autograph Collection, has a countryside ambience owing to its large tree-lined, floral gardens, containing fountains, courtyards, a gazebo, pool and hot tub. Half the 246 rooms look out over the garden; the others have views over the greenery of Hemisfair Park just to the east. There are many restaurants nearby and two in the hotel, plus a lounge and poolside bar; other facilities at the well-regarded hotel include a fitness center, concierge desk, gift shop, and 14 meeting rooms, some occupying specially converted historic cottages.

The Westin Riverwalk is a substantial, upscale property of 473 rooms, including studio suites and one bedroom suites, the majority with views either of the city or the Riverwalk, which runs right past the hotel on the south side. The design has influences from the Spanish Colonial period, while the decor reflects the historic surroundings. The central location, along Market Street, puts guests within easy walking distance of such locations as the Convention Center, The Alamo, Travis Park and the Spanish GovernorÕs Palace. Onsite dining is provided by an all-day Italian restaurant, a cafe serving breakfast & lunch, and a poolside bar, offering drinks and snacks.

The Gunter Hotel in downtown San Antonio is a luxury property opened in 19o9, with a prominent location on the corner of St Mary's Street and Houston Street, one block east (and north) of the Riverwalk. The traditional, clasically-decorated guest rooms are equipped with modern fixtures and amenities, and have views either of the city or of the inner courtyard. Market on Houston, a restaurant/wine bar/cafe, provides breakfast, lunch & dinner, while Bar 414 serves drinks and snacks. The hotel also has a 24 hour fitness center, an outdoor pool and 20,000 square feet of event space.

One of the largest, best and most visually impressive hotels in downtown San Antonio is the Marriott Rivercenter, a huge building of 38 floors, 915 rooms & suites, and 60,000 square feet of meeting space, situated on the corner of Bowie Street and Commerce Street - between the east end of the Riverwalk and the Rivercenter Mall. There are two dining outlets on site - a Latin restaurant open for breakfast, lunch & dinner, and a lounge/bar - though countless more are a short walk away along the river. The hotel has a spacious three story atrium lobby, an indoor/outdoor connecting pool, fitness center, concierge level, room service, gift shop and a car rental desk.

Half the 507 rooms of the 30 story Marriott San Antonio Riverwalk overlook the eastern spur of the river, which runs right past the hotel and terminates next to the Rivercenter Mall, just the other side of Commerce Street. The Marriott is one of the closest hotels to The Alamo (0.3 miles), and within one mile of most of the attractions of central San Antonio. Room rates are quite reasonable for a full service, four star property, and although relatively old, the building is well maintained, and has a long list of amenities including an all-day restaurant, indoor/outdoor pool, fitness center, concierge service, business center, and 13 meeting rooms (12,000 square feet of event space)

Hotel Indigo Riverwalk is the larger of two new hotels of this brand that opened in San Antonio during summer 2009, and it has a peaceful location along St Marys Street on the north side of downtown San Antonio. At the rear of the property is an outdoor pool and patio, right next to the Riverwalk, while the front of the building overlooks a secluded courtyard with fountain and tropical plants. The hotel has a relaxed, sophisticated ambience, catering for guests in 149 elegant rooms featuring modern amenities and extra comfortable bedding. Other facilities include a restaurant/bar, fitness center, newsstand, business center, meetings space and free internet access.

The Hilton is a full service Riverwalk hotel; west-facing rooms have river views, while those on the east side overlook the huge San Antonio Convention Center, and Hemisfair Park. Other locations within a couple of blocks include Amazon River Theatre, Rivercenter Mall, The Alamo and dozens of restaurants, while there are five food & beverage outlets on the premises. All guest rooms have a private balcony, giving spectacular views over the city center, and all are elegantly furnished, with Spanish-style decor. 27,000 square feet of meeting space can accommodate events of up to 400 people; facilities include two rooftop ballrooms.

Named after a lady who found fame during the Battle of San Jacinto, The Emily Morgan San Antonio occupies a historic 1920s building along Houston Street, directly opposite the Alamo; south-facing rooms enjoy excellent views across the forts and its gardens. The Riverwalk is 0.2 miles away and most central San Antonio attractions are within walking distance. The hotel features 177 luxury rooms & suites, a high class restaurant/bar (ORO, open for breakfast, lunch & dinner), a library, fitness center and outdoor pool. The meetings facilities can cater for events of up to 250 people, reception-style.

The Doubletree hotel sits on the west side of I-10/35 along Cesar E Chavez Blvd, adjoining the UTSA campus, in an otherwise rather anonymous district of parking lots and business premises; the San Antonio River is 0.7 miles east, while The Alamo is just over a mile away. Both locations, and many more, are served by complimentary shuttle. The onsite restaurant (Ventanas Bistro & Wine Bar) is open all day until 10 pm, and provides room service between 6 am and 11 pm. Guests here to work are well served by a 24 business center and 12 meeting rooms. Accommodations include spacious one bedroom suites, all with a private balcony looking out over the sheltered courtyard garden and outdoor pool, at the center of the property.

AC Hotel San Antonio uses half of a 20 story building, formerly offices (Riverview Towers), along Soledad Street on the west side of the San Antonio River, one block from the Riverwalk, and shared with another Marriott property, the Element by Westin. Open fall 2022, the full service property contains 181 guest rooms & suites together with extensive meeting space, and several retail outlets on the ground floor. The onsite restaurant/bar is on the 13th floor, overlooking the city center, and there are numerous other dining places a short walk away. The hotel has a fitness center, though no pool.

Sol Cypress is a member of Marriott's Tribute Portfolio collection, a group of upscale, boutique hotels with independent spirit and individual design; it has a fine location overlooking the San Antonio River about a mile north of the city center, one block from Button Stadium and San Antonio Museum of Art. The Riverwalk path allows easy foot travel to other nearby attractions. The hotel has a restaurant & bar on the premises, plus a fitness center and outdoor pool. Select guest rooms feature a kitchenette.

Right beside San Antonio's Riverwalk, the Holiday Inn is a welcoming and well managed property of 23 floors and 313 rooms, positioned along St Marys Street, on the east side of the river in the middle of the most popular section of the Riverwalk, with many bars, nightclubs, shops and restaurants nearby. Also within half a mile is the Rivercenter Mall and the Alamo. For dining, the Holiday Inn has the Windows on the River restaurant, a split level establishment with fine views over the riverwalk, as does the adjacent cocktail lounge. Other highlights are a brightly decorated lobby, a 24 hour cafe, a fitness center, an outdoor pool and meeting space.

The elegant, recently built, high rise Courtyard hotel in downtown San Antonio caters for guests in 200 beautiful and well equipped rooms, most featuring a private balcony for wide ranging views over the city center. The hotel is built just 150 feet from the Riverwalk along St Marys Street, a short walk from many attractions such as the Alamo, River Center Mall, San Fernando Cathedral and Hemisfair Park. Leisure facilities are an outdoor pool, whirlpool and fitness center, while for business guests the Courtyard has five meeting rooms and a business center. The on site Bistro restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner.

One of three Marriott hotels along Santa Rosa Street in downtown San Antonio, the Courtyard occupies a spacious site surrounded by a large parking area dotted with palm trees and other tropical plants, while at the center of the complex is a pretty garden containing an outdoor pool and hot tub. Market Square is an easy walk northwards (0.3 miles), while the San Antonio Riverwalk begins 0.5 miles to the northeast. The well regarded hotel has 137 rooms and 12 suites, two meeting rooms, and two dining outlets - the Bistro for breakfast/dinner and the Market Deli providing snacks and drinks 24 hours a day.

Residence Inn San Antonio Market Square shares a site with two other Marriott hotels (Courtyard and Fairfield Inn) on Santa Rosa Street, one block east of I-35 along Durango Boulevard. There are 95 suites in the three floor building, each with a full kitchen; the other main hotel amenities are free full breakfast, free evening reception where beer, wine & snacks are served, free grocery shopping service, a fitness center, outdoor pool, whirlpool, and two meeting rooms.

One of the newest San Antonio hotels, the Staybridge Suites Sunset Station is built just east of exit 141 of I-37 (Commerce Street). This is a large, 11 story building containing 138 suites, catering for the longer stay traveler. The Alamodome is just to the south, and on the far side of the interstate are the Rivercenter Mall and Hemisfair Park. The modern suites are well furnished with amenities including a full kitchen, large screen TV and DVD player. The hotel also has an outdoor pool and convenience store.

All accommodations at Embassy Suites San Antonio are two room suites featuring a living area, private bedroom, sofa bed, microwave, refrigerator and wet bar, and half have views over the river, which flows past the east side of the building. West-facing rooms look across a few lightly developed blocks towards Christus Santa Rosa Childrens Hospital. Guests are treated to free hot breakfast each morning and free light dinner every evening, while lunch and other evening meals are provided by the French/German-style Luke Restaurant, on the premises. Other features include a rooftop pool with river views, a three story atrium lobby, a well-equipped fitness center and meeting space for up to 900 guests.

On the corner of Market and St Marys streets, the Homewood Suites by Hilton caters for long stay guests or visitors needing extra space and facilities; the hotel has 146 one or two bedroom suites, all with a full kitchen and plenty of space for living, dining and working. Complimentary services are daily hot breakfast, evening receptions (Mon-Thu), weekday newspapers, wi-fi and a grocery shopping service. The hotel occupies a historic, seven story, brick and stone building once home to the San Antonio Drug Company, and within walking distance of most attractions on the downtown area. Recreation amenities are a fitness center and indoor pool.

The ten story, 126 room Hilton Garden Inn in downtown San Antonio opens late summer 2017; a newly constructed building at the corner of Houston and Losoya streets, one block from the Alamo and the Riverwalk. Highlights include a rooftop pool/sundeck, and the Garden Grille restaurant (open for breakfast, dinner & evening room service, which has fine views over the street below, as does the 24 hour fitness center. The business center and convenience store are also open 24 hours. 2,100 square feet of meeting space is sufficient for events of up to 70 guests.

New for spring 2019, Hampton Inn San Antonio has a west-central location in the city center along Soledad Street backing on to the Riverwalk, and just north of the Main Plaza. There are several restaurants, bars and shops within one block, while most of the downtown attrractions are within one mile. The hotel provides free hot breakfast, and free tea/coffee all day in the lobby; it also offers a fitness center and an outdoor pool, overlooking the river. Accommodations include a selection of studio suites with wet bar and sofa bed.

The Hampton Inn is situated in a relatively quiet part of the city center - a few blocks southwest of downtown, half a mile from historic Market Square. The hotel has 118 spacious studio suites, all with a large work desk and kitchen area containing microwave, sink & refrigerator. Free hot breakfast is prepared each morning I(take-out version available), and free coffee is available all day from the lobby. A business center, guest laundry and free internet access are some of the other facilities. Snacks and sundries can be purchased from the 24 hour convenience store.

The Hampton Inn is a quarter of a mile from Rivercenter Mall at the east end of the Riverwalk, part of a group of modern hotels on the west side of I-37, two blocks from The Alamo. Although the interstate runs right past, the hotel has quiet surroundings, located along a lightly used side street, and partly shielded at ground level by trees and bushes. Half the 169 rooms overlook the secluded outdoor pool, on the sunny south side of the property. Free hot breakfast is prepared each morning, and for other meals the nearest restaurants are a little way south, in and around the mall. Also available are a fitness center, guest-use computer and free wi-fi.

Marriott's mid range all-suite chain is represented in the city center by TownePlace Suites San Antonio Downtown, at the Broadway/Houston Street intersection, two blocks north of the Riverwalk and a similar distance from Travis Park, one of the many leafy squares that provide a quiet refuge from the sometimes busy surroundings. Suites are available in studio or one bedroom layouts, and all have a fully equipped kitchen. Guests enter the low rise building through a modern, colorful lobby, and can take advantage of such amenities as free hot breakfast, coin-operated laundry, a business center and a boardroom.

Element San Antonio Riverwalk, open late 2022, occupies half of the Riverview Towers, an imposing, 20 story office building along Soledad Street, just half a block from the Riverwalk, at the northern junction of the loop along the San Antonio River. The spacious guest rooms include a selection of kitchenette suites; all accommodations are beautifully decorated, with fine views over the city center. A convenience store, restaurant, bar, fitness center and meeting space are some of the many amenities.

The second SpringHill Suites hotel in downtown San Antonio opened summer 2014 after renovation of an existing property (Fiesta Suites), occupying a four floor building along St Mary's Street, one block from the river. Hemisfair Park, Henry B Gonzales Convention Center and the Riverwalk are all less than a quarter of a mile away. The hotel contains 116 guest rooms (equipped with a microwave, refrigerator, work desk & sofa bed) and 2 meeting rooms. Good quality free breakfast is prepared each morning, and drinks/snacks are sold from a 24 hour convenience store.

SpringHill Suites San Antonio Downtown is the third component of a trio of newly built Marriott hotels near the Alamo, located just one block northeast, at the junction of Bonham and Bowie streets. The hotel's 118 oversized rooms feature a kitchenette area with microwave, refrigerator & sink, plus a large work desk and free wi-fi. Free hot breakfast is provided each morning, and there is also a daily housekeeping service. A pool and exercise room are available for recreation.

Recently renovated and upgraded following its conversion from another brand, the Holiday Inn Express San Antonio Riverwalk Area is a medium sized, five floor property within walking distance of all major attractions of downtown San Antonio, including the Alamo. The inn is situated half a mile east of I-10 exit 156, on the corner of Cameron & Commerce streets - a site near to at least six restaurants and several shops. Complimentary items provided by the hotel are local calls, a daily newspaper, deluxe continental buffet breakfast, and internet access. The 82 rooms have an above average standard of decor and furnishings; all are equipped with a refrigerator and microwave.

Formerly a Best Western, this new Holiday Inn Express hotel in San Antonio is situated a mile southwest of the famous Riverwalk area and The Alamo - close to I-35 (exit 155 - Durango Street), at the corner of El Paso Street and Laredo Street. The compact, four story building has 79 newly renovated suites containing a microwave, refrigerator, 2 TVs, a coffee maker and ironing facilities. Complimentary buffet continental breakfast is provided, and the hotel also offers an outdoor pool, business center and fitness center.

In east central San Antonio, the Holiday Inn Express Rivercenter has 81 rooms on 4 floors, situated a mile west of the downtown/riverwalk district along Commerce Street - on the edge of a residential area but within 2 blocks of a selection of shops and restaurants. The nearest interstate is I-37, exit 141 (Commerce Street), 1/4 mile to the west. The hotel offers a complimentary local area shuttle, to the Riverwalk, Rivercenter Mall, the Alamo and other central attractions. Good quality free hot breakfast buffet is served each morning.

The second Candlewood Suites hotel to open in San Antonio is a six floor, 96 room property along Laredo Street on the south edge of downtown, next to the Alamo Street exit of I-10/I-35 and 1.5 miles from the Riverwalk. Accommodation features studio or one-bedroom suites with full kitchen, a large work desk and free internet access; the hotel also has a convenience store, fitness center, outdoor pool, bbq area and free guest laundry.

The Travelers Hotel along Broadway Street has been welcoming guests for over 100 years, and was fully renovated in 2017 after coming under Best Western management. Guests are within easy walking distance of the Alamo, the Riverwalk and many other downtown attractions, yet the hotel is located in a relatively quiet area, away from main roads. Hot breakfast is complimentary, while light meals, beer and wine is available in the evening at the bistro restaurant/bar. The Best Western also has a fitness center, a 24 hour business center and an outdoor pool.

At the Roland Road exit of Interstate 10, the Best Western is a modern, medium sized property with a quiet location, at the edge of a wooded, residential neighborhood, yet is just 5 miles from San Antonio city center. There is one restaurant adjacent and a few more along the main road to the southeast, beyond which is a large area of parkland either side of Salado Creek. The pet friendly hotel provides free hot breakfast, plus the usual fitness center, business center, meeting space and outdoor pool. Accommodations include a selection of suites, with a sofa bed and extra living space.

The Best Western Plus is easily accessed from the New Braunfels Avenue exit of I-35 (north side), near the entrance to Fort Sam Houston. Downtown San Antonio is 2 miles southwest. The interior corridor hotel has a relatively quiet location adjoining a residential area, shielded by a neighboring business from the interstate. All 87 rooms contain a refrigerator & microwave, while the hotel offers a fitness center, outdoor pool and free full breakfast. There are several restaurants within one block.

Affordable all suite lodging is provided by Best Western Alamo Suites, a recently constructed hotel next to I-10/I-35 in central San Antonio, less than a mile from the Riverwalk. All 72 oversized rooms have a microwave, full size refrigerator (plus ice-maker), free internet access and a sofabed; most offer fine views of the downtown area, and some feature a hot tub bath and accommodation on two levels. All the other standard amenities are available - free continental breakfast, a pool (indoor), spa, laundry, fitness center and basic business services.

The Best Western Sunset Suites hotel is close to San Antonio's Riverwalk area though not actually in it, being 1 mile east, along Commerce Street, just east of exit 141B of I-37. Closer sites of interest include the Alamodome and Hemisfair Park, both a short walk southwards. This is an all suite hotel (64 rooms; 4 floors), that occupies a historic building built in 1905; for 40 years this was one of the main grocery stores in the city and also hosted an illegal nightclub during the prohibition era. The surrounding Sunset Station district has many more fine old buildings from the early 20th century, as a well as a good selection of restaurants. The hotel has an exercise facility, gift shop and business center but no pool.

Fairfield Inn San Antonio Downtown opened early 2011 opposite a Marriott sister property (Residence Inn), just off 3rd Street near I-37 exit 141A - a quarter of a mile from the Alamo. The six floor hotel provides comfortable, affordable accommodation with the standard amenities of free continental breakfast, free wi-fi, guest laundry, a pool, whirlpool and fitness center. Many restaurants can be found within a few blocks, together with such attractions as the San Antonio IMAX Theater, Henry Gonzales Convention Center and the Riverwalk.

Right next to a Marriott sister property (the Courtyard) along Santa Rosa Street stands the Fairfield Inn San Antonio Downtown, a handsome, 4 floor, 110 room building that receives many favorable guest comments, on account of the free hot continental breakfast, the large clean & well equipped rooms, the friendly staff and the good location - within 1.5 miles of most of the major attractions of central San Antonio, and right next to a trolley stop for those who prefer not to walk. Leisure amenities comprise an indoor heated pool and a fitness center.

The Comfort Suites in downtown San Antonio is within half a mile of the Rivercenter Mall, The Alamo and the Riverwalk, although separated from the central district by I-37 which runs past just to the west. The inn has a particularly elegant, Spanish-style exterior, and inside all the fixtures and fittings are similarly stylish and well presented. Above average amenities include free hot breakfast, free evening reception, a pool/hot tub/fitness center, a miniature golf course, a convenience store, and a microwave/refrigerator in all 89 rooms, which are on four floors, and many have fine views over the central San Antonio skyline.

Although situated on the west side of Interstate 35 (near exit 155B, Frio Street), Quality Inn San Antonio is still within walking distance of most city center attractions, including Market Square (0.8 miles), the Alamo (1.7 miles) and Henry B Gonzales Convention Center (1.5 miles). University of Texas is 2 blocks north. The motel is modern in appearance, with three floors and interior corridors, and it offers an outdoor pool, meeting space, free hot breakfast and free wi-fi, Select rooms contain a kitchenette. Restaurants are a short distance away on the far side of the freeway.

Days Inn San Antonio is quite a small establishment, of 50 rooms, which look out north or east, across the parking lot towards I-37 which runs right past. The hotel has an outdoor pool, right beside the road though shielded by a fence, while inside, facilities are free wi-fi and free continental breakfast. Nearby attractions include The Alamo (0.2 miles), the Riverwalk (0.3 miles) and the convention center (0.4 miles).

Econo Lodge San Antonio has the traditional exterior corridor design, the rooms on two floors arranged around three sides of the central parking area, which has an outdoor pool in one corner and is enlivened with a few palm trees. The hotel faces Interstate 10 at the Alamo Street exit, one mile from the Riverwalk and 1.4 miles from San Antonio Convention Center. In the vicinity are two restaurants, a post office and Chris Park, which contains a collection of tropical plants. Other amenities at the pet friendly property are a fitness center, complimentary wi-fi & continental breakfast, and microwaves/refrigerators in all guest rooms.

The Econo Lodge is one of very few hotels in south-central San Antonio, a mostly residential district - located at the Division Avenue exit of I-35, the 69 room, exterior corridor property is 3.5 miles south of downtown, and 1.8 miles from Mission Conception along the San Antonio River. Trees help shield the hotel from the surroundings, which include three adjacent restaurants. Wi-fi and full breakfast are complimentary. An outdoor pool is the main amenity, plus a meeting room and laundry facility. All guest rooms contain a microwave and a refrigerator. Pets are welcome.

Accommodations at Super 8 San Antonio Downtown are housed in several exterior corridor blocks, and have views either of the parking lot or the outdoor pool at the rear, though all are somewhat overlooked by the elevated lanes of Interstate 35, which runs right past on the north side. Free continental breakfast is provided, with eight items, and free wi-fi. The motel is situated on the north edge of the downtown area a short distance east of the I-37 intersection and one block from Museum Reach, the path along the San Antonio River; San Antonio Zoo is 2.5 miles north, while the city center and the Riverwalk are 2 miles south.

A patch of undeveloped land surrounds Super 8 San Antonio - fields, woods and a stream, though generally the neighborhood is residential, on the southeast side of the city beside US 90 (exit 577; Roland Avenue). The pet friendly motel has two storys, exterior corridors, and a good-sized parking lot all around. There is one restaurant opposite but few other nearby facilities. Freeman Coliseum is 2.4 miles north. Amenities include an outdoor pool - on the north side of the building in shade for some of the day, a business center, guest laundry and free continental breakfast.

The Rodeway Inn is a budget-priced, pet friendly motel just north of downtown San Antonio - along the northern I-35 frontage road just less than a mile from the middle of downtown, and so a good base for price-conscious visitors to this world-famous city. Amenities are limited to free wi-fi and free coffee. Guest rooms are equipped with microwave & refrigerator. Accommodations are in several blocks, surrounded by plenty of parking space.
