Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is perhaps the most scenic and spectacular desert preserve in Arizona. The landscape is broadly similar to many other places - rugged mountains separated by wide plains, but is enhanced by the remote location, the colorful rocks, and in particular the great variety of the desert vegetation, which includes the rare organ pipe and senita cacti in addition to the usual saguaro. The monument adjoins the international border in the far south and has suffered from problems related to smuggling and illegal immigration, though the area is well patrolled and perfectly safe. Facilities include a campground, right amongst the cacti, two unpaved scenic loop drives, and a small but varied selection of trails.
