Nearby are various shops, restaurants and other hotels, plus the Kern River, which has a pleasant footpath running both ways along the edge. The hotel also boasts the largest ballroom in Bakersfield, part of 14,500 sq ft of meeting space.

Bakersfield's handsome new Holiday Inn is part of a recent area of development next to the Kern River along Marriott Drive, a short road with several other hotels, close to highways 58 and 99, towards the northwest edge of Bakersfield and a mile south of the town of Oildale. Amenities at the full service Holiday Inn include an outdoor pool, gift shop, modern fitness center, American-style restaurant (open for breakfast, lunch, dinner & all-day room service) and 1,700 sq ft of meeting space. Two miles west of Bakersfield city center, the Hilton Garden Inn is a modern, fully-featured hotel of 120 rooms and 2,105 sq ft of meeting space, located in a quiet neighborhood on the north side of the Kern River, near the Rosedale Highway exit of CA 99. The first TownePlace Suites hotel in Bakersfield opened 2016, adding to the range of all-suite lodging in the city. Since its opening in 2007, SpringHill Suites Bakersfield has come to be regarded by many as the best hotel in town, because of the comfortable beds, spacious rooms, friendly staff, reasonable rates and the good quality free breakfast. Located right next to another Marriott property (Courtyard), the hotel is just off Highway 99, the main road through Bakersfield, and about 2 miles from the downtown area. Guests are within walking distance of Bakersfield Plaza, which has several larger stores, and more restaurants. The Best Western Heritage Inn serves travelers along interstate 5 - the 47 room hotel is right next to exit 253, the Stockdale Highway, which reaches Bakersfield 15 miles east. The Fairfield Inn in north Bakersfield (open summer 2017), has a quiet location along a side road near exit 31 of Hwy 99, 1.5 miles from Meadows Field Airport. Rooms at the all suite property contain a microwave, refrigerator, cable TV with HBO, ironing facility and coffee maker. Amenities include free continental breakfast, fitness center, business center, hot tub, and swimming pool. The property reopened spring 2011 after a full renovation.
