South Padre Island Hotels

Tthe Holiday Inn Express is a fairly new South Padre Island hotel (open 2005), and about the most northerly, situated opposite the convention center close to the start of undeveloped sand dunes that stretch for many miles further north. The hotel is next to the main road on the island (6502 Padre Blvd), 1/4 mile from the beach - close enough for some of the 104 rooms & suites to enjoy ocean views. Others overlook the hotel's outdoor pool and whirlpool. Free continental breakfast is served, while for lunch & dinner there is a good selection of restaurants and bars south along the main road.

Near the south end of the busy resort of South Padre Island, the Comfort Suites is a well-reviewed, medium sized hotel half way between the main road (Padre Boulevard) and the beach at the Gulf of Mexico - about 400 feet from both. The hotel has an outdoor pool & hot tub, gift shop, guest laundry, and a microwave & refrigerator in all rooms. Free full breakfast is served and there are many restaurants, bars and clubs a short walk away. The Sunchase Shopping Mall is one block to the north.

Right on the north edge of South Padre Island (3.7 miles from the end of the causeway), the Hilton Garden Inn is a large, modern and popular resort with a very peaceful setting, adjacent to Andy Bowie Country Park and facing the Gulf of Mexico. The Convention Center is just across the road and there are shops & restaurants a few blocks south, but a short distance north the land becomes completely undeveloped. The hotel offers 156 elegant, spacious rooms (many with ocean views), an on-site restaurant (open all day), a lounge/bar, an oceanfront outdoor pool, a fitness center, and meeting space for up to 690 people.

The oversized, boutique accommodations at Suites at Sunchase include studio and one bed suites, the largest 900 square feet in size. All are equipped with a wet bar, microwave, refrigerator & free wi-fi, and most have nice views westwards to the Laguna Madre. In the other direction, the Gulf of Mexico is about 600 feet away and there are plenty of restaurants nearby - the property is situated near the south end of town, a quarter mile from the end of the Queen Isabella Causeway. The other main facilities are an outdoor pool, hot tub, poolside bar, fitness center and meeting/banquet space.

Although it provides some of the cheaper accommodation in South Padre Island, the Motel 6 has a good reputation, for its clean rooms and the relatively quiet location - most rooms overlook a side street, and the neighborhood is residential. The motel is situated along Padre Blvd about half way through town, within a block of several restaurants, and 1,500 feet from the beach. Facilities comprise a secluded outdoor pool, guest laundry, wi-fi, free coffee and cable TV.
