The Island Trail in Walnut Canyon National Monument passes over 20 ancient Sinagua cliff dwellings, including this well-preserved row, built in a long alcove in the Kaibab limestone that forms the top layers of the canyon walls. Vegetation in front of the ruins includes yucca and cacti, reflecting their sunny, south-facing aspect. In the other direction, the cooler north-facing slopes are covered by fir and pine trees.
