The simmondsiaceae (jojoba) family consists of a single genus, simmondsia, which contains only one species, simmondsia chinensis; this plant has previously been classed within the buxaceae and hamamelidae families. The one species is a dioecious, evergreen shrub, native to desert regions of the Southwest.
