Martyniaceae (unicorn plant) is a small family with just four native US species, in the proboscidea genus. Plants are perennial herbs, glandular hairy, and stongly scented, producing terminal racemes containing a small number of flowers, which have bilateral symmetry. Flowers are formed of five sepals and a two-lipped corolla containing five stamens of different lengths.
