Tropicana: One of a quartet of hotels along Las Vegas Boulevard that have been open for over 50 years (Sahara, Riviera and Flamingo are the others), Tropicana is still quite popular despite being surrounded by several much larger and more modern resorts, at the south end of the Strip. The hotel is the closest to Las Vegas International Airport, and east facing rooms have a fine view over the runways and terminal buildings, though double glazing ensures a quiet night's sleep. Rooms on the west side overlook a large enclosed tropical garden containing several spas, waterfalls and pools, including a swim-up bar; for those wanting to escape the sun, the hotel also has one of the few indoor pools along the Strip. The 61,000 sq ft casino is situated at the front of the hotel, by the Las Vegas Blvd-Tropicana Ave intersection, while the other main facilities comprise seven restaurants, several lounges, the Tropicana Spa, a hair salon, 35 specialty shops, the Island Wedding Chapel, a business center and 45,000 sq ft of meetings/event space.
Tropicana is a good choice for traditional Las Vegas entertainment, though its most famous show (Folies Bergere, running continuously since 1959) was performed for the last time in May 2009. Current productions include Brad Garrett's Comedy Club, Sideswipe (a martial arts show), and the Miami Sevens Band.
