Scalloped Spring
Previous PhotoScalloped Spring, enclosing a sunken pool of dark waterNext Photo

The unusual, sunken appearance of Scalloped Spring results from illegal attempts to force an eruption several decades ago; now the waters bubble and boil several feet below ground level, mostly hidden by a thick, overhanging, scalloped sinter rim. The feature is not a geyser and the waters never rise above the rim.
