Echinocereus dasyacanthus
Previous PhotoEchinocereus dasyacanthus - Texas rainbow cactus, near the start of the Hot Springs RoadNext Photo

The Texas rainbow cactus produces some of the largest and most beautiful flowers of any Big Bend cactus species - bright yellow with pinkish stripes on the outside, and up to 4 inches in diameter. The plants may be solitary but often form clusters of ten or more stems. They are covered by short but dense spines that sometimes grow with slightly different colors from year to year, giving a banded, rainbow-like appearance.
