Several types of Indian paintbrush are found in Big Bend National Park; they have bright red petals and yellowish calyx structures, together forming large and showy flowers that tend to obscure the small green leaves lower down the stems. Plants are found in all areas of the park from rocky land around the Rio Grande to summits in the Chisos Mountains.
