The half mile Doney Mountain Trail in Wupatki National Monument climbs 210 feet to a rounded volcanic summit formed of red and black ash. The view from the top includes the taller but similarly colored peak of the main mountain just to the north, and several low mesas, also composed of lava and ash. More distant features in view are the San Francisco Peaks to the west, the Painted Desert to the north, and the valley of the Little Colorado River in the east.
