Punch Bowl Spring
Previous PhotoPunch Bowl Spring, in the Daisy Group of Upper Geyser BasinNext Photo

Punch Bowl Spring is reached by a short side trip on the trail leading west from the Daisy Group loop; it stands alone in partly wooded terrain. The spring is surrounded by a neat, raised sinter rim 8 feet in diameter, resembling a punch bowl. The waters bubble and boil near continuously, splashing over a slightly shallow part of the rim and flowing along an orange, algae-lined channel. The spring is thought never to have erupted. There are no other major thermal features hereabouts; the tour continues by walking east, back to the Daisy Group.
