Plume Geyser
Previous PhotoGrey sinter around the vent of Plume GeyserNext Photo

Plume Geyser was formed quite recently, by an explosion in 1922, and it retains an irregular appearance. The geyser erupts in a small number of short surges, sending water and steam to a height of around 20 feet, separated by an inactive period that is generally between 30 to 60 minutes, but can be days or even weeks. Plume has two main vents and has formed a white, sponge-like sinter mat extending several feet all around.
