Opuntia grahamii
Opuntia grahamii - Graham club cholla, near the start of the Hot Springs Road

Full size photograph (900 x 675 pixels)

Also known as grusonia grahamii, this species forms low mats, often covering the ground for several feet. The thick grey-white spines are 1 to 1.5 inches long, and tend to obscure the narrow stems. Flowers are yellow, borne during May and June. The cactus is found all across the park on low elevation gravel flats and beside dry washes.
