Cacti of West and Southwest USA - Echinomastus

, or pineapple cacti are usually single, forming small globes or cylinders characterized by tubercles arranged in rows, all quite spiny, but lacking any curved (fishhook) spines. There are six US species, all with limited distribution, mostly in Arizona and Texas.
The other three US species are:
Echinomastus gautii, top cactus, south Texas
Echinomastus intertextus, woven spine pineapple cactus, southeast Arizona, south New Mexico and far west Texas
Echinomastus mariposensis, Lloyd's pineapple cactus, Big Bend area of Texas
