Driving just a couple of miles into the dry lake bed (Black Rock Playa) at the southern end of the
Black Rock Desert is enough for a good appreciation of the scale and beauty of the landscape. This view is taken along the temporary road from the 3 mile access point, where the playa is bordered by the Granite Range in the west and the Selenite Range in the east. The small town of Gerlach is just visible to the south.
