At the north edge of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, the lightly used, 0.8 mile Carruthers Cove Trail descends through a thin belt of redwood forest into the overgrown ravine of Johnson Creek, then ends at a junction with the Coastal Trail, at the edge of a dark sand beach. A short distance south are several huge rocks beneath a protruding cliff, beside a small lagoon.
