Two roads head north from Trinidad: busy Highway 101 and the quiet, narrow Patricks Point Road, which after 5 miles reaches Patricks Point State Park, one of the more developed preserves along California's northern coast, with facilities including a visitor center, picnic areas, campgrounds, adventure playground and a network of trails. The park contains 2.5 miles of the coast, a mix of cliffs, rocky peninsulas, small, stony beaches and the much larger Agate Beach, which is part of a line of sands extending north into Humboldt Lagoons State Park.
